Loose Park

Loose Park is another one of my favorite places in Kansas City.   I happen to accidentally drive past it one day last year, and was so glad I did.  This is definitely one of my favorite places to go running.  This place is just gorgeous.  There are big grassy open areas, playgrounds, picnic areas, tennis courts, a pond with a fountain, a rose garden (which I think two of my classmates have gotten engaged in), and a great running trail.  It's only a mile or so away from Rockhurst, so it's a great place to stop and go running on my way home after class.

I love the bridge with the weeping willow.

Definite senior picture material.

A great hill for playing "Jack and Jill."

Hope you get the chance to stop by sometime!

DC and the Garden Party

My boyfriend, Patrick, lives in Washington D.C.  He's teaching 7th grade history at the high school that he went to (The Heights).  Every year they have big fundraiser/gala thing called the Garden Party.  Luckily, I was able to fly up for the weekend.  I will be the first to admit that I am awful at actually taking pictures.  I either think that it's not the right time to take them, forget my camera, or just forget to take them altogether.  So for whichever reason you would like to pick, I did not take any pictures of the actual Garden Party, but let me tell you, it was adorable. It was outside in the courtyard under a huge tent. They have the some of the young kids (like 4th-7th) serve hors d'oeuvres, hand out cigars, and refill glasses of wine.  It was raining that evening, so they would hold an umbrella for you as you walked from one tent to the next.  Best part: they wear bow ties! Yeah, I know.  Pictures of all of this would have been pretty great right now.

Here is the outfit I wore for the Garden Party.
It took my forever to figure out what to wear.  Just ask any of my classmates.

I had a lot of homework to do this weekend, so we didn't get to do a lot of the touristy stuff, but I didn't mind.  We went to Georgetown one afternoon to study.  I think just being there makes you smarter.

While trying to pretend to be a student on campus,
I made Patrick take a picture in front of their main building.
All the students there do that, right?
We also drove past Georgetown Cupcakes.  I'm a sucker for cupcakes.

Bad picture, but you get the idea.
After the Garden Party, even though we were both exhausted, I asked if we could drive around the national mall to look at all of the monuments at night.  Not a bad way to end a day.

And I will try to take more pictures next time.
Thanks for stopping by!

Quay Coffee

Luckily, in my program we don't have class on Friday.  (I'm really going to miss that when I actually get a job.)  I usually take this day to catch up on cleaning my room or go to Shawnee Mission Park for a really good run.  Today was my one day off of work this weekend so I decided I was going to try to get as much homework done as possible.  Now, I will be honest.  My productivity level is extremely low when I study at my apartment.  There is just always something that needs to be cleaned, eaten, or crafted.  So I decided to go to my very favorite coffee shop in the whole wide world, Quay Coffee.  Now this is one thing I am definitely going to miss about Kansas City after I move back to NE.  First of all, the place is ADORABLE.  Brick walls, wooden tables and chairs, tungsten light bulbs, nautical stuff everywhere, and a barista with a handlebar mustache!  Secondly, this place has legit the best coffee I have ever had.  There are some really awesome coffee places in KC, but Quay is by far my favorite.  It was so nice and relaxing to spend the afternoon there, and I got so much more done than I would have at my apartment.
Best place in KC.

They even have a water bowl for dogs! How thoughtful!

Inside.  (Notice the handlebar mustache on the guy on the right.
Also notice how they are wearing very similar shirts! haha)
My most perfect vanilla latte.
My favorite accessory.  What I like to call my "Quay ring."
I found it when I went to visit Patrick in DC.  I knew it was just meant for me!
I definitely recommend this place if you ever get the chance to stop by!

GBR

Normally I am 100% a Creighton Bluejay fan.  However, living in Kansas/Missouri during football season makes me REALLY miss Nebraska. (Only 96 days until I get to move back!)
I just love all of the state silhouette stuff out right now, so when I found this Husker red chevron fabric, I knew that it was destiny.

This was SUPER easy to make.  All I did was print out an outline of Nebraska and trace it onto my fabric and then cut it out.  I used the blanket stitch on my sewing machine to sew it onto the fabric.
The towels are just barmop towels from Target.  I love using these to make cute towels, but I think that they are just a little too short.  Sewing the strip of fabric on the bottom was an easy fix.
My sewing machine has an embroidery function, so this is what I used to sew the "GBR."

I'm sending one to my sister, Stacey.  Hope she likes it!

Thanks for reading!
