Engaged!

Yes you read that title correctly! Patrick and I are engaged!

We could not be more excited! Here's how it happened:

Since Patrick gets summers off, we decided that he should spend as much of the summer in Omaha as possible.  As soon as he finished up his teaching business, he started the drive from DC to Omaha.  June 21st, he drove from DC to Chicago and I flew into Chicago that night to make the last leg of the trip with him.  I didn't get into Chicago until about 10:30 so we just grabbed a bite to eat from Superdawg and then hit the hay since we had another long drive the next day.

The morning of June 22nd (the feast of Corpus Christi), we both woke up early to go to mass before driving back.  We went to mass at St. John Cantius Parish (Patrick's family's home parish in Chicago).  This church is gorgeous!  It is probably one of Patrick's favorite places.  After mass, Patrick wanted to walk around the church since it was going to be his last time there for a while (or so I thought). We walked outside and he suggested walking through the church garden (still no idea).  There was another guy standing in the garden so Patrick started asking a lot of questions about the flowers to waste time until the guy left.  This is when I started to suspect something was going on.  Once he left, Patrick got down on one knee an proposed! It was beautiful! The picture above is in the garden right after we got engaged.

Afterwards, we went to have brunch.  I was so excited I didn't even care about the food (which is not normal for me).  When we were finished with brunch we got in the car and started the 8 hour drive home.  It was perfect being able to spend that time alone.  No distractions.  Just us and a few crazy phone calls home to let our families know that we were engaged!  It was perfect!

Here's the ring! He did a great job, don't cha think?
Patrick actually designed it with the same jeweler that
made his mom's and grandma's wedding rings.

Here's St. John Cantius.

Can't wait for all of the wedding preparations!

P.S. Date is set for July 11, 2015 at my home parish, Holy Trinity Heun!
